Right clicking on Tray Icon leaves part of menu on desktop

When I right-click the try icon and select ‘start avast antivirus’, that choice remains on my screen and appears on top of everyathing that I display after that. Very strange. The image for the menu choice is permanently locked on my screen until a reboot.

Help?

Thanks.

  • Menu, Display Remnants, Log Viewer Remnants, Graphics glitches, etc.
  • Edit the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini using Notepad [Common] section, add the following line to the section SunbeltKPFHack=2, save the file, you will be prompted by the avast! Self-defence module if this is OK answer Yes. Whilst this is primarily for Sunbelt or Kerio Personal Firewalls it may well work even if you don’t use either of these firewalls. You may need to reboot to have the changes in the avast4.ini file to come into effect.

Insure that you have the latest version of avast! installed:
Build: Sep2009 (4.8.1368)

Right click on avast! icon in the taskbar then Updating then Program Update.

I have this problem on occasion as well. Some times I get stuck w/ the “Start avast! Antivirus” on my screen, some times I don’t.

Welcome Satanic_Hamster

What version of avast! are you using?

avast! Free v4.8 English (43MB) available from:
http://www.avast.com/en-ca/free-antivirus-download#tab4

Latest version; through I had this problem with previous versions as well. Nvidia based graphics card. This is the only problem I’ve ever had this sort of glitch with.

Then try making the modification I mentioned above, but it goes in the avast5.ini [Common] section, just do a search for avast5.ini on your system

No file by that name, only avast4.ini

EDIT:
Hmmm. Thought 4.8 was the latest version. 5 is?

If you can only find avast4.ini then you still have avast 4.8 installed ?

No 4.8.1368 is the latest 4.8, but isn’t the latest avast antivirus version; avast 5.0.396 is the latest 5.0 version.
So you can apply the changes as listed in my first reply to this topic.

Or you can install avast 5.0:
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again.

You can install over the top of avast 4.8 and that converts the remainder of the registration period and removes 4.8.

What is your OS as 5.0 can’t be installed on win9.x or winME ?

could also be a Windows graphics glitch, happens sometimes no? generally solved after a reboot…
