Still waiting for the repair for installing anti theft on Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Any word on when this fix will be released?? It’s supposedly been in the works for a while.
I’m anxious as well. I’ve got two new Nexus 5 running 4.4 (rooted, Cataclysm) and I’ve upgraded my Nexus 4’s to the same.

It always takes some time to finish an update due to quality managmentent processes.
The update has to be tested thoroughly.

When there’s a update version, do we have to uninstall/reinstall or will updating it allow root?
Any updates on this? I’m still not able to use this on a rooted Nexus 4.

Looks like new update is available in Google play store.
Anyway, during installation it says that in order to get notifications (e.g. sim change etc) one needs to install also Avast mobile security?
Is that correct? No more Anti theft stand alone without the whole package of mobile security?

problem is, that Android 4.4 no longer allows to hide in- and outgoing SMS from the common SMS inbox. That’s why we integrated a “SMS Remote Control” tool into avast! Mobile Security. The tool uses binary SMS to send SMS commands and receive answers. Binary SMS aren’t displayed at all.
You can still operate Anti-Theft stand alone - all you need is to install Mobile Security on the phone phone of a fried you want to to use to send the SMS commands from.
You can still use the common SMS commands - but they will be displayed in clear text (including your avast! PIN) on the target phone.

by the way - we are the first company to offer a solution for the sms command problem on Android 4.4.
Any other SMS based Anti-Theft solution experiences the same problem.

Can this be avoided? I mean, at least the display of the PIN? Otherwise, it will turn the protection useless… If there is technical issues, can the feature be disabled in KitKat at all?

yes, you can avoid displaying SMS commands and the avast! PIN in clear text by using the Mobile Security integrated tool.
The binary SMS aren’t displayed at all.

In this case, then I’d like to suggest a new feature- having the SMS Remote Control as a stand alone client, that needs to be installed in a friend’s phone in order to send sms (without showing the pin etc). Instead of having to install Avast Mobile security (since it is integrated in it).
Why?
First, because if I understand correctly, if I lost my phone at a party, for example, and I ask help from someone nearby if I can use his phone to send sms, then I’ll need to install first theft aware mobile security on this dude’s phone, or risk showing the pin to whoever finds my phone?

In this case, probably nobody will ever allow me to use his phone to send sms… :-\ Now, if it is not complete strangers, but say, a colleague with a smartphone they wouldn’t mind allow me to install a small client to send remote control sms, but I wouldn’t dare asking them to install Avast mobile security just for me.
Second, even my two friends that I have designated in Theft Aware preferences don’t like to install the whole mobile security thing- it’s too much bloatware and they don’t really need it. They don’t mind installing a small client app that just allows their phone to send sms to mine, but they don’t want all this antivirus, privacy stuff, firewall and the rest of the package- they laugh at me and say it’s battery eating bloatware and takes too much memory and space. I don’t use the mobile security package neither- I always uninstall it after setting up Theft Aware, not needing or wanting any of its “numerous functionalities”.

For me, the need to have mobile security on friend’s phone, or losing the ability to send stealth sms from any phone is just a deal breaker. A small client would be just fine…
And, another thing- it is not possible to enable premium options in Theft Aware- I have to install the mobile security package, only to be able to push one button to check premium license, then uninstall the mobile security package. Is it that difficult to add the same button directly in Theft Aware?

Thanks for the update. I uninstalled the Avast! Mobile and Theft software and re-installed the latest. I’ve done some limited testing and it seems to work. (I was able to track my phone!). Great job.
I’m having the same issue on my Kit Kat Nexus 4. Latest update doesn’t seem to fix the issue, but I did manage to get a root installation and hard-reset protection using EDIFY set to Jelly Bean.
I’ll try again later. Does the Android Play store have update propagation delays?
Hello everybody!
I updated my Nexus 4 to 4.4.2 and anti theft told me to reinstall or to move the apk manually to /system/priv-app, because it’s the new system folder in kitkat. I reinstalled and manually moved the apk but i still get the information that I should do these steps again and the app closes.
Is this a bug on 4.4.2?
Is it also not possible with a root installation?
Would it help if the App gets the OP_WRITE_SMS permission?
I’m not being able to install AT either on SlimRom 4.4.2 root.
The AT is not installed and the root uninstall zip that could be flashed is failing, i.e., flashed with errors.
