Hello all,
I have recently purchased a GPS, and a CD was provided with it in
order to install what in some sense is their home GPS management
tool on my PC (I am trying not to mention the exact trademark).
While reading this CD into my RW transport, Avast detected the
following rootkit : autoplay.exe. The message was provided via the
usual alarm display (with the siren), and a message appearing in the
lower right corner of my screen. I tried to put into the chest,
but I received a message : cannot process (the text file was in
french, so this is my translation, therefore might be not fully exact).
The only thing I could do was to extract my CD and quit.
Some time after, I tried to read this CD again, and then, my
Comodo firewall sent me a message : HOMERunner.exe is
trying to execute "trademark"HOME.exe and asked me to allow the
request.
Actually, I did nothing and after a minute, Comodo gave up.
My question is : is my CD safe to read or not ? And how
apparently Comodo is sending me a request that never appeared
before ? Does this mean that after a number of tries, Avast finally
accepts the CD file, only because for example of some funny dust
point in my transport ?
Thanks in advance for any comment !
