rootkit detection?

Does Avast have rootkit detection?

No. Not (yet).

So it will be coming? Anytime soon?

I don’t know… I never heard anything official from Alwil team…

Reason I ask is because I just heard that Avira AntiVir had added rootkit detection.

Is it integrated with the antivirus or, on contrary, a standalone application?
I knew that it was a standalone application… in beta stage… maybe things are different now.

Currently, avast can only prevent installation of (most) rootkits. However, as soon as its gets activated (i.e. gets past avast) it usually can’t detect it anymore.

Any plans to add mechanism to detect active rootkits? New scan feature or new provider?

Absolutely.

When Vlk speaks a beta can’t be far behind ;D

I suggest you visit this page http://www.antirootkit.com/software/index.htm for antirootkit detection, removal & protection.

Also check recent topics as this seems to be doing the rounds at the moment, a search for bagle and blacklight and see if you can monitor what has been said in other topics. For instance, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=25822.15
Panda AntiRootkit seems to be the only that could clean it.
