RPC error : have repaired and reinstalled w/o success

Hello

Yesterday, Avast icon had a red mark on it and when I try to activate : RPC error + FAQ URL.
I repaired. Nothing new : still error.

I completely uninstalled it.
Reboot.
Reinstall.
Few hours OK.
This morning, on wake up, I went to my computer : Avast disabled.
Right click on the icon to activate it : no message at all and no activation. I launch it and then : RPC error message.

I tried to activate services and to choose “automatic” but Windows XP Pro + SP3 tells me : No access :frowning:
Avast! Antivirus + Avast !AVS4 Control Service = Launched (automatic)
Mail Scanner + Web Scanner = LAunched but marked as “manual”
any solution ?

Thanks

PS : no antivirus other than avast before my last WinXP format/reinstall.

Hi…

Just out of curiosity, did avast work correctly before you upgraded to SP3?

I have heard reports that this service pack has caused various problems, including software from Symantec. :frowning:

Best Regards…

Hi.

Yes, worked perfectly before SP3 (SP2) and… I upgraded to SP3 when it came with Windows Update, so Avast ran some weeks (months ? Can’t remember the french coming of SP3) without problems.
Not sure SP3 is involved, cause I din’t install it yesterday or this week.

Before rushing to judgment on SP3 … let’s ask …

What avast version are you currently using?

Everything you have told us about the avast services setting is perfectly as it should be.

Can you please tell us of any changes you have made to your system recently …

avast program updates?

the SP3 update?

Please try to tell us the sequence of updates as clearly as possible.

I will just say that I have updated to SP3 on multiple WinXP systems here along with the latest version of avast without any issues.

So, please advise us of the version of avast you are currently using.

Hi.

Avast 4.8.1201 (downloaded yesterday, upgraded just after install reboot).

History of my Windows :
Format C:
Install WinXP + SP2.
Installed Avast 4.7.
Upgraded to 4.8 when it comes.
Upgraded to WinSP3 when it comes.

That’s all.

By the way : i mixed VRDB and Avast icon, but now, they are still independant (2 icones instead of 1) in the systray and the avast one show disabled icon and the VRDB one is spinning all the time.

Thanks for the update.

Was avast working without any issues before you downloaded the 4.8.1201 update yesteraday or were you experiencing problems before that update?

As far as I know, the first “problem” occurred with the same version told above.
Not 100% sure because… Avast upgrades silently so I assume it was up to date
But, in case of it was not up to date, it was running with the last previous update, I’m sure because upgrade process always worked.

If you downloaded the avast update to 4.8.1201 then I have to assume that was a choice you made and that avast program updates are not “silent”.

So … was avast working ok before you chose to update to 4.8.1210 yesterday?

Sorry for misunderstanding
The problem occurred, for me, with this last update.
Yes, Avast was up-to-date when the problem comes.

Have you tried a “Repair” of your avast installation (from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > avast) ?

Yes, before uninstalling and reinstalling it.
No difference.
Stil now, VRDB icon in systray is spinning.

VRDB is being generated and this is shown by the independent icon.
When it’s finished, you’ll get only one icon (mixed) again.
When VRDB starts again, by default in 21 days, you’ll see the ‘i’ icon again.

Ok thanks.

You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)

In fact, my “thanks” was only for the VRDB spinning icon, I’m always in trouble with avast not scanning :frowning:

Not scanning? What’s happening exactly?

…看不懂

It is all written in the first post of this thread : RPC error, can’t activate AVAST resident scan services :frowning:
VRDB always spinning.

Well… it should be an English-only forum…
Could you please, go to an automated translation service, copy & paste your text and get, at least, an automated translation of your writings?
Thanks.
