RPC error & On-Access Protect for Win2k server

anyone know about an RPC error when trying to start on accecc protection on a win2k server? It says it cant start the on access component.

Is the avast antivirus service running? If not, is it possible to start it manually? Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Services.

The most common reason for this is that the credentials you’ve supplied to the setup program were not correct (e.g. incorrect password). In that case, the service would fail to start due to a logon failure (you’d get this message from the Services applet after trying to start it manually). To remedy the situation, you’d open the service properties, Log On tab, and make appropriate changes.

avast isnt even listed as a service

:o :o

Not listed???
And the installation completed OK?

That is very strange I’ve gotta say…

So no “avast Antivirus” and no “avast iAVS4 Control” services???

that is correct… i installed on 3 servers and all are acting the same way… same RPC issue…

i installed over remote admin 2.1

and i have since uninstalled avast and installed AVG, Panda, and Proland Protector Pluss 2000 on the machines… if i could get avast working properly i would choose it over the others hands down.

Hmmm…
It must be some problem related to user rights (or maybe incompatibility with Remote Admin?). I assume you’re logged on as an administrator?

Also, can you send me the file \setup\setup.log from one of the machines?

Or course, the services are absolutely vital to the proper working of the whole AV, so if they’re not installed the AV really can’t function.

i would except i uninstalled avast and put AVG on all our machines… i just dont have time to tinker… we are in the middle of a server migration (NT4 → 2000 Server) so this just isnt the time… while i was messing around with avast we got trojaned (dntus26) and a bunch of i-worms got in as well… so… if you can tell me how to make avast work i will gladly buy 5 server licences…

Can you give me VPN/Remote Desktop access to one of the servers?
I could install the software myself.

Thanks

not sure if giving access to my servers is wise ::slight_smile:

It’s just really hard to tell what’s going on there if we don’t have the logs, and don’t see the error messages.

Unfortunatelly the symptoms are to loose to conclude the cause of the problem… :-\

I guess we’re out of luck… :frowning:

for now… once i get all my site and email domains swapped and stable i will have time to tinker with avast… it looks like smokin’ hot AVware so i will keep it in mind.

fyi: i was getting 'Resident Task not found null 00000x000" type of errors and the RPC subsystem error

OK thanks… please come back as soon as you have some time.
I’m sure we could have it up’n’running in an hour or two…

ok i reinstalled it on the web server and i get:

The requested resident task could not be found.
“null” parameter message 0x00000000

and when i double click on the systray icon i get:

avast!: The AAVM subsystem detected an RPC error!
The operation could not be completed.

HELP! AVG sucks and leaves all sorts of shite on the HD after scans

Problem solved…

GT.exe/MSDN.exe and associated virii affected install.

avast! 4 server now running flawlessly on 5 servers.

Thank you
