RPC error & VPS file destroyed>reinstalled> self-extract> system admin. settings

Hi,
I have Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP 2, CPU AMD Athlon™ XP 2000+, RAM 1.67 GHz, 512 MB of RAM.
I had Avast Version VPS 000749-1.06/15, which was the Free Home Edition, updated.
I used “Last Known Configuration” amongst also “Loaded Optimized Defaults”, when my power went out, and then the trouble started. When I rebooted I got the red circle on Avast.
I came here and tried to do the repair to no avail, then did the reinstall via Control Panel> Boot> Avast Uninstall>>Boot> Install the same new version I had> boot.
I went back in to My Computer to open up Avast, and I got a Setup Selfextract error 1006 (000003EE), (last performed operation was opening the selfextract archive). So I came back here again and did as suggested by clearing my Temporary Internet Files, via Control Panel> Internet Options>Delete Temporary Files.
So… then I see on the bottom when I tried to delet that it said “Some settings are managed by your system administrator”. I had my computer guy probably make it to where I couldn’t go in and screw something up, so is that causing my problems to begin with, and how do I fix it so I can make changes?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Candie, hello!
Did you install avast! in the default directory (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4)?
In some cases avast! can’t work properly if the directory contains not English symbols. For example, the same problem you’ll have if you install it in directory which way contains Russian symbols (Yes, it’s true! I don’t know why but it’s true!!! ).

To anyone who tried to help me, Thank You… I am not exactly sure what I did to get it to work, I went in and changed myself to Administrator and used my CCleaner to get rid of my Temporary Internet files.
I then reinstalled it and all is fine. I used a LOT of good advice here from past and present.
