RPC error

Hello
My On-Access scanners are not running. This happened recently, and I am unable to start them. Starting On-Access protection control only results in errormessage “The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error”. I followed the instructions given to resolve the problem without any change. The following services are set to start automatic, and shows as started:
Avast antivirus
Avast IAVS4 control service
mail scanner and web scanner both.
However, according to Avast none of these scanners are running. There is a red circle on the system tray icon. No reaction when I “start On-Access protection”.

This is a new problem in a long line of troubles with Avast. Always they appear suddenly, and usually results in a reinstallation. My confidence in Avast is all time low right now. Is this just common with anti-virus, or is it just Avast?

I assume that this is what you are referring to when you say you followed the instructions, AAVM subsytem detected and RPC error. http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-questions.html#idt_1539

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?

This isn’t common to avast! and when seen is usually associated with either having another AV installed or having had one previously and remnants are left behind.

Yes, that website is the instructions I followed.

I have always used AVAST, no other. Using Kerio (Sunbelt) firewall. No other malware programs or the like. The only thing I can suggest is that I installed RoboForm a couple of days ago, on a external source (USB). Illl reboot XP without it and see if it resolves it.

JT

Ok. Now AVAST is working as expected, even if I run RoboForm. Strange indeed. I would like to say I’m happy again, but I fear these are indications of some bigger, more sinister problem on my system. :o

Computers are complicated.

I doubt that roboform would have this effect. The reboot was probably what resolved it.

Strange, computers don’t you just love them ;D
