Thank you sythe944 and Spiritsongs for your advice and patience. I think I have removed all of the vulnerablilities from my computer, and I have installed and turned on a purchased copy of MBAM.

Since you bought the Professional version of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, it
means “it” is providing “real-time” antiSPYWARE protection ; since basic
computer security principles is to have ONLY 1 antiSPYWARE program provide
real-time protection, it means you should “Disable” the real-time capability of
the “Windows Defender” program that comes with the Win XP SP3 Operating
System .
To periodically check the version “status” of the programs on your computer,
to see IF you have the LATEST secure “version”, I recommend you use the
FREE “Software Inspector”, available at http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online .
