RsolvdAvast 5.0.594 Gives A Self Contradictory Message After Updation...Puzzling

Background:-

  1. WinXp Professional; 32 Bit
  2. My default browser is Mozilla version 3.6.8; The other browser is Opera version 10.60 build 3445 (which is not set as my default browser). I also have (& avoid using it) Internet Explorer version 6.0.2900.2180 (not set as my default browser).
  3. There is no firewall blocking Avast server etc
  4. As soon as I start internet the first thing I always do is to ensure Avast 5.0.594 is up to date both in terms of “antivirus” & also in terms of “program update”
  5. Immediately after that I do the same for my antispyware, followed by security apps System Protect 1.0.0.83 & my System Optimizer apps
  6. No new antispyware nor any other security app nor any other System Optimizer has been installed between yesterday & today ???

Problem
As enclosed screenshot jpeg shows I received a self contradictory message after updating Avast 5.0.594 at 1846 hrs IST today i.e. Aug 2nd i.e. around an hour back
Update Engine & Virus Definitions tells me that my virus definitions are out of date
whereas on the same screen
Engine & Definitions tells me that my virus definitions & program are both up to date

Query
Why the self contradictory message? It generally never happens; Generally it is a flawless process ???
Which message should I believe? ???

It may be that since you did a program update, which also does a virus signature update at the same time. From your image you have yet to click the OK which may well trigger the change in the rest of the UI.

If you did that and it is still showing a disparity - Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

Or reboot.

Thanks yet again for your kind reply! As always your reply is thorough; quick & useful; I guess its an enduring wonderful talent you have  I am beginning to understand better why Avast is a world ranking software

I had planned to “reboot” & then if that did not work go for the “repair” strategy. Before doing either I tried manual update once more. It is as flawless as what it has always been

Thanks again

You’re welcome.
