Run a Boot Time Scan Every Time

Hi everyone,

I just upgraded to the new Avast (I built a new computer) and I was looking for the setting to make a boot time scan run EVERY time I turn on my computer. I preferred having it scheduled without having to go in and manually set up a scan but if it got taken out then oh well.

Thank you,
JoniiBoii

boot scan is not designed to be used as a regular scanner…it is meant to be used when avast have problems removing a infection or when avast program itselfe tell you to run it

avast have realtime protection, meaning evry file that moves in the computer when on is checked so frequent scans are not necessary
a quick scan a week is plenty …or if paranoid, activate screensaver scan

Even if this were possible you would soon get tired of it as it is one of the most thorough scans and tie your boot up for some considerable time.

Avast is normally running quite early on even on boot, so the file system shield should be scanning active files. Avast also runs an anti-rootkit scan 8 minutes after boot, so you are pretty well cover by avast already.

The boot-time scan is a specialist scan as has been mentioned, so there shouldn’t be a need to run this on any regular basis.

Awesome,

New to Avast after dumping Panda. You answered my questions without even having asked them,

Thank you,

Peter

I am going to borrow this topic for a second, instead of running weekly full-scans (I have OCD about viruses), I run boot-time scans. Is there any harm in running boot-time scans instead of full scans?

No, it is mainly the duration as it scans more files, it requires user interaction on alerts (unless you change settings), all in all an unnecessary measure unless the reason for the boot-time scan is avast can’tr handle the infected item in normal mode.

Even the Full System Scan is a bit overkill.

  • With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert (even more so on a boot-time scan). If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.

I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. If for some reason my system wasn’t on, no big deal I will catch up on the next scheduled scan.

I know it is overkill, it is just my OCD wills me to do it. (I used to do it every day at one point, so stabilizing it at once a week is something I am content with). I am just happy to hear it is not harmful.
