Hi Charger…
We meet again.
How did you uninstall AVG? If you just uninstalled it through the Control Panel, I would advise the following…
- Uninstall avast by using the utility here…
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
- Download the appropriate AVG uninstall utility and run it…
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
- Download and install a fresh copy of avast.
Let us know if this helps.
Best Regards…
I uninstalled avg with revo
Thought the AVG Remover suggested by ardvark should clean-up and remnants, in a boot-time scan I don’t know if any of the AVG drivers would be loaded that early, e.g. before windows starts.
Though it is certainly worth doing.
I don’t know if this MS KB is helpful or not, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/228753
That’s not the same as using the AVG uninstall program suggest by ardvark and required to totally
remove AVG.
Installing one AV program before totally removing any other is never a good idea and usually
causes problems.
so do i install avg again then use the avg uninstaller
Use the uninstaller as it cleans up after the normal add remove programs which you would have to do so you would effectively have to run the uninstall tool also to ensure everything is gone, double the work.
so even though avg is uninstalled run the cleaner so it will clean up anthing left behind right?
Yes.
i did everything you guys recommended and its still doing the same thing
Hi Charger…
Ok, go to “Start”---->“Run”---->type in “chkdsk /r” (without the quotations) in the white box and click “OK.” If it asks whether you want to run the scan at next boot, click “yes.”
This might fix the problem.
Best Regards…
ardvark i did what you told me to do i restarted and a blu screen came on and it said this "checking file system on C…then under that it said CHKDSK is verufying files and it had 5 stages.after that was done it took me to another screen i cant remember what it said ,but it was some kind of an error page
Hi Charger…
Correct, that is what you are supposed to see.
Do you remember what the error was and did this procedure fix the problem?
Best Regards…
Hi Charger :
When it comes to using “Chkdsk”, I follow the Advice at
www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-chkdsk.html ; in using the “Command Line”
version, I see only “chkdsk c:” or “chkdsk c: /f /r” and I have NOT used nor
do I see the “chkdsk /r” recommended by Ardvark . The “Graphical” Version of
those “Instructions” is to use BOTH “Fix” AND “Repair” if you are going to use
either .
Hi Spiritsongs…
I’ve used the “chkdsk /r” command before with success but your instructions seem to be better. Thanks for your post, I just learned something else new today!
Best Regards…
thanks spiritsongs im gonna try that
