run an adware /malware/virus scan

Hi
I have the free avast version 4.8-1351. I need to run an adware /malware/virus scan. When I click on the little A icon in my operating tray I dont see any option to run a scan. Is that option available with this free avast version 4.8-1351 and if so how do I start that?

Hi and welcome,

I don’t remember ever seeing an option to run a scan right from the tray-icon in any version. You’ll need to open the interface first, which you can do from the icon.

right click the blue “a” ball and > start avast

you should also update the program, latest is 4.8.1368 …and then there is the new avast 5
