No, avast antivirus (as any other antivirus) requires elevation.
Only the icon on system tray run with dropped rights.
Darn so every time I right click on the tray icon and run update vista is going to popup the uac thing. 
Why do you need to do so?
You can configure it to run automatically each 2 hours…
