I’m running 4.8 pro, and want avast to only update at a specified time.
And do not want it to auto update or even check for an update unless its at a specified time.
In short, i want avast to only check for and downlaod updates at 3am daily. And thats it.
I thought i can just create a “update” task in the scheduler to create my 3am only check.
But for the life of me i cant do it. The only thing i can do with both the “tasks” and “scheduler” in the advanced option GUI is configure stuff for scans only, no updating…
And how do i disable all of the default avast auto checks? Just set it to manual in program settings?
The ability to create an update exception would also be awesome. NOD32 had this option in 2.7, V3 sucks, where lets say the 3am update got missed because the computer was off, it would check for updates at next bootup, logon, all kinds of event triggers, or another specified time…if you wanted to do so anyways.
I did see something in reguards to a 30% CPU throttle. A little info and how-to on that would also be great.
I’m used to nod32 2.7, that pretty much made adjusting the updates and scans a cookie cutter.
Very strait forward scheduling, with drop downs and check boxes, and the ability to see all scheduled stuff in one GUI with title, action, time, etc, “The scheduler”
In the Enhanced UI, go to the Scheduler folder. Rightclick, select “New…”; fill whatever you want in the window (name, description, Scheduling type - daily, 3am) - and in the “Scheduled task” combo, select “iAVS for VPS file”, at least I guess that’s what you want.
However, if the specified time is missed (the computer is off at 3am), the update won’t be performed.
Yes, if you set both the options to Manual on the Update (Basic) page of program settings, you’ll disable the automatic updates.
The CPU limiter is used only for the automatic updates… at least I think so; there are no settings for that.
Thanks igor, your suggestions worked out well for me.
Sorry for the delayed response…horrible few weeks :-\
Now i just gotta figure out this issue that i got when i log off / switch users / turnoff / restart since the avast install.
No matter what i do when loggin off, turn off, restarting etc… everything seems to close out fine (no errors), but the system will sit there with a black screen and the cursor (moveable but useless) for about 20-30 seconds before the welcome screen kicks in, or the reboot / turnoff procedure actually kicks in.
And the thing that baffles me is that there is no hard drive activity during this “hang”. Just wasted time and black screen for 30 seconds, then bam the HD kicks in and the welcome or logoff screen will finally pop up.
Nothing in event viewer either.
FYI incase i forgot to mention.
XP Pro - recent and skeaky clean install with SP3 and latest drivers slipstreamed.
Issue didnt start until i installed avast.
noticed it at first but figured it was an avast update or scan process doing something…looking at it now with avast tamed the way i like it…still the same black screen every single time… ah well.
