run or save??????

Could someone pls tell me: 1) When I am upgrading from Home edition to Pro do I need to uninstall before hand ? 2) Do I run or save when I begin to download? Seems simple but I am brain dead today…Thx in advance!! ThanksDavid…but you didn’t sayif I run,save or open when download begins…

To the best of my knowledge just enter the pro key into the home edition and it will upgrade and update

That’s exactly it - just make sure you’re on line at the time so the needed files can be downloaded (this will happen automatically when the new key is entered).

Please don’t post multiple topics for the same question, I answered your other topic, this should have been kept together.

You don’t have to save or run anything, just enter the key as I said.

when the box comes down and it asks " Do you want to run or save this file" should I run or open the file? That was my original question. I have had Avast for 3 yrs now and am aware of the key…but I am NOT sure if I run or save. Pls advise and TY in advance.

Basicy what happens is the following:
If you choose save you choose where to save the file so that you can use it at a later time.
If you choose run the file gets downloaded to your temporary folder then is ran.

My Advise is to run it but if you want to save it and run it yourself it is fine also.

riezy - it sounds like you’re downloading the program from the avast! web site and you just don’t need to do that. It causes more work than is necessary.

Do this:

Make sure you’re on line
Open the avast program by right clicking the a-icon in your system tray and choose Start avast! Antivirus
When the splash screen appears click on the word Registration and enter your new, Pro key
Avast! will take over and make all the necessary changes

Its that easy.

EDIT: If you want or need to download a fresh copy of the program you will need to uninstall avast! first, reboot, install, reboot again. I wouldn’t bother with all this unless your current installation is corrupt.

First you have to purchase the Pro license, when you get that, just replace the home license as I said, first you must get your pro license.
