run time error

How do I get rid of a runtime error (it refers to abnormal termination) which is preventing me from opening attachments on my email?

Can you post more info?
Which is your Windows? Which firewall do you use? Which email program do you use? What is the file extension and size (attachment)?
A screenshot of the error message… etc. etc.

Thanks for your response. I’m using windows XP. I don’t have a firewall to the best of my knowledge. The email I was using was gmail but it has affected wanadoo and hotmail emails also. I don’t know what a file extension is and the size of the attachments varies, some small some pretty large. I don’t know how to provide a screenshot but it says the following:

" Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error

Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\office10\WINWORD.EXE

abnormal program termination "

Any advice appreciated

I should so…

Gmail uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) connections and avast mail scanner doesn’t support SSL (Secure Socket Layer) connections.
But take a look here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=10428.0 to see how to set up secure email with avast!

Large attachments could be a problem if avast! and email program timeout aren’t well configurated.
But you don’t tell us which email program you use…
GMail does not allow *.zip or *.exe files (among others) to be sent.

Try ScreenPrint32.

What does this refers to avast?
Nothing… This is a MS Office problem… maybe reinstalling Office or reparing your installation.
