Rundll32.exe icon has changed?

Hello, Avast!

To the point…

My rundll32.exe on my computer has unusual icon.
Not like other .EXE icon, my rundll32.exe icon has different icon.
Is that normal?

how about it on your computer? does it have same icon? on C:\Windows\System32\Rundll32.exe

Yes.

Its the same on both my XP Pro and win7 systems, mind you I generally don’t view folders as thumbnails but as details, but the smaller icon to the left is the same. Just check the date modified of the file to confirm nothing has changed inside the file. Mine is the same as those others around it, but a few other .exe file types have different icons, there are three different ones in my attached image (click to expand).

ooh… This is mine, seems we got different size of the Rundll32.exe

My image is from XP Pro so if yours isn’t the same OS then there are going to be differences, date and size. My win7 one shows 14/07/2009 and 44KB.

It is just that it is easier to do the screenshot on my main desktop system than my win7 netbook.

Hi, I know I’m 2 years past the last post but I’d like to say my rundll32.exe also shows 14/07/2009 with a size of 44kb and that same unusual page icon. I’m pretty much convinced it’s not a coincidence.

My XP computer would not shut down because of a rundll32 problem. “End now” that process was necessary. Then another rundll appeared and two "End now"s became necessary. Nuisance.

My rundll.exe was 47,872 bytes. I repeatedly renamed it but it was restored. Then I renamed it both in windows\system32\ AND in the \system\dllcache file from which it was being restored.

To my surprise rundll32.exe was again restored but now it is 33,280 bytes AND my computer now shuts down easily.

Any comments? Did the 47,872 rundll32 have poison? (By the way, where did the new, smaller rundll32.exe come from?)

Comments will be appreciated.

My mistake, sorry. MY computer still will not shutdown without twice manually ending Rundll32.exe.
The new, smaller rundll32.exe makes no difference.
What’s with two sizes of rundll32 ? Is the 47,872 newer than my now 33,280 ?
