Running Ashquick.exe by Task Scheduler doesn't display Quick Scanner & Result

I set the windows(vista) task scheduler to run Avast Home ashquick.exe once a week. But the Quick Scanner and the Result is not displaying unlike when it runs thru context menu scan. Is there a way to display these when task scheduler runs ashquick.exe?

Thanks.

Yes, just set (check) ‘Show results of Explorer Extension’ in the Common tab of the program settings.

I’m not sure that is the problem or solution Tech.

As jra is using ashQuick to scan all local disks (assumption on what is scanned) as the Home work around to scheduling a scan. Now this weekly scheduled scan should last long enough for the ashQuick.exe splash screen to display, even if the display results isn’t enabled. There is no display of the ashQuick scan splash screen OR the results.

So I don’t know if this is a vista UAC thing (not being a Vista user) or not.

Most probably an UAC issue… the task should be scheduled to run with admin rights, only this. I have tested one minute ago.

I usually use boot time scan to scan all local disks, but I can only do it once every month or two. Now, I would like to use ashQuick, run automatically by Task Scheduler to scan all local disks weekly.

I tried setting & running ashQuick with Task Scheduler to scan only one small file. And according to Task Scheduler, ashQuick is running, but it doesn’t stop from running even for long hours unless I stop it manually. Why is this so? Is it really scanning?

I think it’s more than enough… The important is to keep your on-access protection on.

Set a smaller set of folders, not the whole partition and disk and check if it returns a report after that (i.e., set ashquick.exe to scan a small folder).

.

I still have the virus-infected file in the virus chest and I restored it back to test this ashQuick-TaskScheduler. Then I ran the task after setting it to scan only the particular folder where the virus is. But nothing happened, it did not find the virus. I guess ashQuick-TaskScheduler is not working with Windows Vista, that is why there’s no display of ashQuick Splash Screen and the result. Although in the Task Scheduler, it says ashQuick is running; but it is not scanning, it is not working.

Is it really a compatibility issue with Windows Vista? Guys there who are using Windows Vista, do you experience the same or is it working with you? If it’s working, please share to me the solution. I will appreciate it very much.

Can you post screenshots of your scheduled task?
I’ve tested yesterday, create a task, run, the ashquick.exe come up, the results appear at the end… No UAC was involved in the action as the task is set to run with higher privileges… I can’t reproduce your problem in my computer… Hope somebody else helps.

Here are the screenshots of my scheduled task. On the second screenshot (ts2), E:virus is a folder containing real virus. (I also tried E:\virus). The task did run on schedule base on task scheduler (ts4), but the ashQuick splash screen and the result did not display, and the virus was not found or detected. Also base on task scheduler, the task never stop unless I stop it manually. What’s wrong with my task schedule?

It’s missing a slash:

E:\virus

Although it does not seem to be ‘only’ this…

Actually, I tried first the E:\virus then I also tried E:virus as instructed by jedisb (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=3796). I also followed his note on setting up single click to open items. Then tried also double click. But all are just the same. No ashQuick display, no result, virus not found.

When I use the Run command from start menu and typed in either “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe” E:\virus or “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe” E:virus, with or without slash, single or double click to open items, either way works well.

So what’s wrong with the Task Scheduler?

jra, sorry, I can’t help further as mine is working… ::slight_smile:
I doubt that Alwil team could help that much… the scheduling features are at Professional version…

It’s okay, I’m happy anyway with Avast Home and if I should need the additional features, I’ll just purchase Professional version.

Thank you very much Tech for everything…

You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)
