Well, we started to troubleshoot this problem by email and PM.
Now I’m just posting the summary of that: when I run IE 9 and FF 8.0.1 sandboxed, the downloaded Excel files can’t be saved neither opened.
avast is properly set to allow downloaded folders of the browsers.
Both browsers are set to download to D:\Install.

Now is up to us to discover what is going on ???
