Hi,
Is it safe to run avast! Home 4.5 without ashDisp.exe? I prefer to keep my system tray clear of icons I don’t really need. I searched the forums and FAQ for any information on this topic, but all I found was people looking to turn it back on. What sort of impact does it have on avast! to operate without it? Will all resident scanning features still operate? Automatic updates? Would this disable all pop-ups if something is found?
Thanks,
-Will Miles

Well yes it is possible to run it without ashDisp.exe
But only in case you have set Silent mode for Standard Shield before.
This way malware will be automatically placed into Chest, but you won’t get any warnings.
If you want to remove it just because you don’t want to see the tray icon, then i suggest that you use my avast! External Control (AEC) tool from www.excessive-sofware.tk
You can find Hide tray icon function under avast! Tweaker option when you run AEC.

Why not use the build in options in XP (if that is what you have) to hide the icon?

Build in XP option is plain crap. It always hides wrong icons no matter how you set it.

Thank you RejZor,
Your program offers precisely the option I was looking for. Many thanks!

RejZoR… I think it’s a little bit exagerated… :o
Mine works perfectly.
Anyway, the user could disable avast icon by your application or directly changing the value into avast4.ini file (Settings on my signature).

He did that through AEC
Windows can’t hide some icons no matter what you do.
I have a mouse software and if i set it to “Always hide” on each next bot that thing sets back to default “Hide if not used”
This is not exagerated… this is true: some icons ;D

Yeah, well the point is that icon is the only one that i want to hide, but i cant.
And i need that damn program running so my mouse wheel works correctly (its using some enhanced wheel mode).
Most probably it does not have the same title all the times.
Windows can only hide titled icons with the same name

A little correction if I may.
Windows can't hide some icons no matter what you do.
Yes Windows can, but sometime it needs a little help (registry editing) ;D
Can you post the solution? :
