Greetings all…
New avast! user here. Not having much success trying to do a “thorough” scan and could use a little help.
System specifications…
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1.2600(2000) Service Pack 2)
avast! v4.7 Home Edition / Build: Oct2006 (4.7.892) / VPS File version: 0653-0 12/03/2006
Processor: I1586, Revision 0209 (“x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9, GenuineIntel”)
Physical_memory: 254MB installed, of which 90.1MB available (64% load)
Hard_disk_space: 76253MB available, of which 60082MB free
Also use: ZoneAlarm, Ad-aware, Spybot
I have tried to do a full scan 4 times so far, each ending in failure. I have submitted an email report to avast!'s support, but no reply (yet). I’ve gotten a number of different error messages with each run.
The first message to appear was a notification from Windows itself, informing that my virtual memory had run low and that it needed to be increased… there are no options to this warning other than an “Ok” button to click. The second message to appear following that, was a blue screen informing that an unrecoverable error had occurred and that Windows was shutting down.
The point of failure during the scanning were the files in:
c:\System Volume Information_restore{…}\Snapshot… (etc)
After that first run I changed the fixed swapfile size to “Windows Managed”.
The next 3 runs no longer produce the virtual memory error, but instead display the following error message before the program (avast!'s scan) aborts.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\avast4\ashSimpl.exe
Abnormal Program Termination
I have yet to date been able to complete a successful scan.
Any ideas?
