Safe, unsafe?

Hey again ive been looking for a way to completely disable symantec antivirus that comes pre-installed on these laptops doing anything short of uninstalling it i can disable realtime protection but avast will still say that they cant be on the same computer togeather and when i look on the process explorer it shows that defwatch.exe and rtvscan.exe are still running for symantec so my question is it “safe” to end symantec through process explorer upon startup?

you can uninstall norton using this-it should remove everything :wink:

don't disable it-it has to be removed 8)

hmm i was hoping there would be a way to just shut it off i cant really delete it because the guys in it I.T department are sensitive about it i think they ask me why i cant use symantec and i try to tell them that compared to avast it stinks but nope they wont hear anything about it, ticks me off to no end

Man… it won’t be possible to run avast in a computer with Symantec. Disable is not enough. Can’t you bring your IT tech to talk with us here?

I honestly wish i could because avast beats symantec by a mile but i could request it but i doubt they would there not really known for being that reasonable were working on model T23 IBM thinkpads from the 90’s i think? and for a new keyboard they chafe 35$ im thinking they should be more along the lines of free but thats just me

Free is only for home use and this doesn't sound like it fits that bill. :)

True, but like i said these laptops are very old just for a testament i get to buy this at the the end of this school year for 5$ its a cheap computer thats why im probably going to keep this one with xp professional and buy a HP laptop im thinking with Vista Ultimate people can try and tell me vista isn’t good but i’ve worked on it and used it and had no issues whatsoever with it
