Safest way to change over to avast!

Hi,

I have read alot of good comments about avast! and wish to change over to it on my PC from Macfee.

Before I do ANYTHING, I’d just like to ask what is the safest method? I remember reading somewhere that I cannot download avast! while Macfee is still running and that I have to remove Macfee before I download avast! Obviously, my concern is if I do this, then for the amount of time I’m on the net without Macfee or avast!, I’m liable for infection.

May I ask advice for the safest changeover method, please?

Regards,
Troy

you can download…but not install before you have uninstalled McAfee

then run McAfee removal tool and reboot. http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

now install avast and reboot.

Here is what I send to my avast! clients:

  1. Download avast! 7 Pro from here and save to desktop:

http://www.avast.com/en-us/download-thank-you.php?product=PA&locale=en-us

  1. Save your avast! license file “license.avastlic” to the desktop)

  2. You must remove the old antivirus first! - from Control Panel, then Add / Remove programs (if XP) or Programs and Features (if Vista / 7)

  3. uninstall the existing A/V (sometimes this will require using a removal tool)

  4. reboot system to finalize the removal process

  5. now install avast! 7 Pro by executing the file saved on the desktop "avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe " (step 1)

  6. go with defaults, select Yes to “Community IQ”, select “Supply a license file”, and browse to the saved “license.avastlic” (step 2)

  7. reboot system (finalizes installation process)
