SafeZone hangs after using bank mode

Since the latest upgrade a few days ago, whenever I use bank mode and come back to normal mode, Safe Zone is completely unresponsive - doesn’t respond to mouse clicks or keyboard.
Only cure is to rebbot the PC.
Very annoying!

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

What is your OS version?
Do you have SafeZone browser running on your normal desktop too?
Is only browser frozen or whole OS? If you kill the browser using task manager, can it be started normally after that?

Hello ondrejz, I got a report of the same issue in the Japanese forum.
I can confirm the issue on my machine, too.
Repair nor reinstall does not solve this issue.

  1. Launch SafeZone Browser
  2. Open some pages
  3. Click “Card” icon to switch Bank Mode
  4. Bank-mode screen appears, no SafeZone Browser opens
  5. Back to normal mode (Bank-mode is running), SZB is unresponsive now
  6. Switch to Bank-mode, SZB is there but unresponsive
  • Only browser (and Bank-mode itself sometimes) freezes
  • DO NOT try to close SZB from inside of Bank-mode, or Bank-mode will be unresponsive too and getting out of Bank-mode becomes difficult
  • Unable to kill SZB, saying “Access denied”

you are using beta version. Let’s separate issues from beta from potential issues from public version.

I tested public version on Win 7, there is no such problem. There are some fixes on the way for beta version but I am not really sure if they fix your problems because I have not reproduced it on my PC.

This has happened to me tonight running version 17.2.2288 (build 17.2.3419.64) on Vista 64 bit. (i.e. NOT beta software.)

I entered bank mode by right-clicking on the notification icon. Access to my banking site was denied by web shield (I suspect they have recently adopted a new url). I closed the browser without ending bank mode and found that the mouse still worked but the keyboard was disabled in all open programs. I could open task manager but did not know which process to kill.

I then hibernated the system, booted it up again and logged in. At this point a windows message was displayed saying that Avast had crashed. An avast notification icon is still visible and appears to be functioning normally.

I’m avoiding bank mode until this is fixed.

Please can you describe this in more details?

  • Right-clicking what notification icon? Avast tray icon?
  • What URL of banking site is denied by web-shield? Did you try it in other browser?
