Safezone still screwed up in V8

I bought 2 years of Avast! Pro while in V7 a few months ago and discovered Safezone doesn’t perform satisfactory . I access my bank website and login to the page where you do your work, which takes forever to load. Once accessed, the toolbar GUI is corrupted and I have to guess where to put my arrow to log out because the log out spot is partially covered with a second tool bar. Navigating through the site is extremely slow. When I log out and go back to the regular desktop, my regular browser window is about 4"x6" and can’t be expanded. I have to restart my computer to get the browser window to full size. Then if I access my bank site, it won’t let me in unless I get a code from the bank to type in, to show I’m me. Safezone is useless to me. I was told it would probably be fixed when V8 comes out, but upon upgrading to V8 nothing is changed. I upgraded to Avast Pro specifically to get Safezone to be safer banking on line. Now I have a year and a half to use PRO with no Safezone that’s good to use. What say you? The rest of V8 is great!

There have been 244 people view my post and not one Avast! techie can offer a solution or response. Since I posted, I submitted a support ticket also. No response. Great!

:frowning: >:( >:(
I’m with you… (and… Excel, Word, Calculator not working! Just “pictures on a wall”!)
Avast is doing what “AutoCad” was doing… Expanding the software without taking care of “Testing” and eliminating “Flaky” parts…
Last Year I signed (again!) for a 3 year with them and just weeks later I start having problems!
Totally unfair to create a “monster” (like the notorious hog named “Norton”), a piece of GARBAGE and let US solve the MESS!
I had to clear their “patched” software and re-install (it) countless times after cleaning the “Registry” (and count the hours required to WIPE CLEAN, Defrag and again!).
I’m not impressed at all… And by the way, the latest interface is U G L L Y! No sense of “Graphic Art”.
Being too eager to gather a serious place in Consumer’s harts and forgetting for whom the software is destined to!
Soon… I’ll drop the remaining $$$ with “Alwil” and go for “Bitdefender” or “Sophos”!

Cheers!

As I said, the rest of V8 is fine for me. I have since uninstalled and re-installed Avast Pro V8 to no avail. SafeZone still doesn’t work for me. For all I know it might be some setting on my computer, and not Avast’s fault. But I can’t get any help, so at least until then I have it shut off.

… Just try to (spending your own time) clean uninstall the program…
Erase all traces of logs, directories, clean Registry… A good program to help is “CCleaner” by “Piriform”.
I did download and save the last Avast before starting… Don’t want to get on the “net” with my… “pants down”!
Good luck ( and by the way, stumbling over your post I did thought it might be helpful “Reporting-it” to the “Moderator”… Hopefully that might help! (On the other hand, after uninstalling, you’ll be re-directed to Avast reporting screen; write down your “concern” and someone will contact you! I know the Chechs, they are a very nice, educated and Polite people!

A better program to clean up the remainders of avast is aswclear. It’s designed to remove the avast! leftovers.
Get it from here: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Thanks for the responses. I did use the Avast! cleaner to clean out the left in’s before re-installing.

YES, I agree… I meant cleaning the “Remnants” afterwords… Cleaning part of the Registry! (the rest must be carefully done afterwards!)
NOTE: DID YOU UNINSTALL / CLEAN YOUR PREVIOUS ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM?!? If you did not… You’ll have obvious problems!
Cheers…

I’ve been using Avast for years, so no previous AV. Did a clean uninstall/re-install.

I’m not exactly certain what is going on, but am willing to try and help.

  1. If you go here → C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\sfzone
Are you able to open the browser and will it run properly for you?

  2. Is your version of SafeZoneBrowser and SafeZoneBrowser.dll the same as in the images I have attached?

  3. What banking site are you logging in to?

  4. If you log into PayPal or some other similar site do you have this same problem or is it only on your banking site?

  5. What is your regular browser that you use?

Hi Charyb, Thanks for responding. I’ll answer your questions as you have numbered them.

  1. SafeZone opens ok. the problem is that other than being really slow, the bank site opens and there are two toolbars near the top which should be one on top and one below that one. However they appear one over the other one so you can’t see all of the second one. I have to guess where the sign out spot is to click off. This problem doesn’t happen in my normal browser.
  2. Yes it’s the same.
  3. It’s my local bank.
  4. I only access my local bank.
  5. I have Chrome as my default browser.

The worse problem is that after exiting SafeZone, the windows that I open as in accessing the regular browser or a Windows window is small about 4x6 and can’t be expanded. I have to reboot, where upon all is well.

  1. Will you please give me the url to your banking site? I would like to visit it.

  2. Are the only security programs that you have on your computer the same as shown in your signature?

  3. Have you thoroughly removed all previous security programs?

  4. Are you using any custom windows themes?

  5. It might be worth giving this a try to see if it will reveal any problems. → http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Please follow the directions and attach the logs to your next post.

  1. https://www.mhvfcu.com/ All you’re going to see is the home page. The problem is on the signed in page.
  2. yes
  3. yes
  4. Just the WIN7 supplied themes.

I added #5 above after you quoted me. I think this would be very helpful. It sounds like there may be a conflict somewhere (or maybe malware). Won’t know the answer to this until the logs are attached and reviewed. I have notified essexboy.

Thanks. I will do as you instructed, however, I won’t be able to do it until tomorrow Wednesday because I’m in the middle of moving my computer and other stuff into another room. What a PITA.

Here’s my MBAM log. I have no malware. Those other apps on the url you sent me make me nervous to run, because I’m not a techie and I’m afraid to mess with them because if something goes wrong, I won’t have the knowledge to get myself out of a possible problem.

Well, the OTL log file will show the most useful information. The initial instruction is only a scan which creates a log of different areas of your computer. Nothing is changed unless instructed to do so by a malware removal specialist. They really know what they are doing. Hopefully it will show items that may be causing a problem on your system. In your case, I think this would be the most beneficial scan to run. It’s your call though. If you decide to run OTL, please attach it rather than pasting it. Please see the image I have attached.

Your windows resizing is definitely not normal behavior.

Have you ever run system file checker? Please read the following for details.

Hi, Before I explore your last suggestions, I think I may have a clue concerning the window resizing thing. When I bought this computer, I decided to go with an HDMI cable from the computer to the monitor, rather than the included VGA cable, the reasoning being I thought I would get a better picture. Then while setting up I tried to use the recommended 1920x1080 default resolution but could not fill the screen no matter what I did. So experimenting I found that 1280x720 did the trick. I left it like that for a year or so, but realized that circles on the screen were showing slightly out of round because of the resolution. Long story short, I was on the Windows 7 forum and with the help of a member realized that by using the HDMI cable, that caused me not to be able to use the default resolution of 1920x1080, and it was suggested that I use the VGA cable. That solved the problem. However, I now had the size problem I described to you above on most windows especially browser windows at least once, until I physically resized them at least once. After a short period of that and zooming in text on sites, the problem went away, and I have had the proper resolution in proper perspective for maybe a year. Now the resizing problem has appeared only when I come out of SafeZone requiring a reboot to correct. What do you think? Could it be something that your OTL or system file checker could show?

Hi, Charyb, I did the SFC scan and there were no problems found. Thanks for referring that. I saved the url. I’ll try the OTL next.

I have just tried my bank in safe zone… I experienced no problems with either of the sign in pages, it went as smoothly as outside safe zone
