Safezone

Hello,

Why oh why isn’t safezone working anymore?? I have AIS and up until a couple of days ago I have had no problem with safezone and now nothing. I type in the address bar and nothing. It doesn’t even look like it is searching for the site. I am also wondering why chrome is the browser of choice since I have read in the Avast forum that chrome is not as secure as it once was?

Hopefully someone can help me with safezone. Thanks in advance!

What exact version of avast ?
What OS/SP ?
Any other security (related) software installed ? (or did you)
Have you already tried something to solve it ?

Hello,

What exact version of avast ?

AIS - 2015.10.2.2215

What OS/SP ?

Windows 8.1

Any other security (related) software installed ?

Only Malwarebytes & MCshield, as a dedicated Avast user I follow the advice in the forums

Have you already tried something to solve it ?

Nope, don’t have a clue what to try.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Janice

Latest avast version is: 2015.10.2.2217
Install that one clean and see if the problem is solved.

Hello,

I’m not sure what you mean by “clean”, would that be to uninstall & reinstall? If so I will do that but haven’t done it yet. I merely updated in Avast but already had the latest update. See attached!

Okay I went to your link, followed the instructions and did a clean install from your link and it shows the exact same version I had before uninstalling/reinstalling.

Same problem with safezone, still not working as it should.

Hi nanajana

Do you use MBAM Premium, or did you start to use the trial ?

Greetz, Red.

As I said the latest avast version is 2015.10.2.2217

I wasn’t aware that Avast had beta version. I’m pretty sure that I don’t use the beta version, do I have to or is this an added feature of Avast?

Several things have been improved/fixed in the newer version(s).
If you don’t feel comfortable with installing that version, just don’t do it.
We will ofcourse respect your choice.

What about the question Rednose asked ?

You essentially have to opt-in for beta testing, normally this is by installing one of the beta builds.

You don’t have to be part of the beta testing - in fact I would say if you aren’t prepared to accept the possible risk involved in beta testing that you shouldn’t - beta testing will be over in due course and then it will be released as a regular program update.

Yeah, I’m just going stick with what I know. So then I do have the latest version of Avast. I’m just working on what Rednose said.

Thanks for the replies guys! Love this forum!!!

You’re welcome.

Have you checked out the link in Reds Reply #7 above (do you have MalwareBytes AntiMalware Premium) ?
This relates to an issue with MalwareBytes AntiMalware Premium and using the avast SafeZone.

Yes I have Premium and I checked out Reds reply, and nope, exclusions didn’t work. Well at least I learned one thing though that the browser isn’t google chrome as I had thought! but of course that still doesn’t solve my problem. I can’t get the settings to run in the browser either.

Anyway have to leave this for now and try again to get it working later. Any help is very much appreciated as I want this feature working!!

I also ended up with this problem on my old computer and it never did get resolved so was very happy to have it working on this computer, sigh.

So I reset safezone contents and now when I go into safezone I get the browser up but it is different in that it comes up with google canada as the homepage, don’t recall ever seeing a homepage before. The left hand corner says avast safezone and when I search for “avast forum” it acts as a normal browser in that I have to choose which entry I wish to be directed to. I can’t take a screen shot as I apparently am in safezone.

I don’t recall it ever working like this but when I check on settings on the right side of address bar it shows as safezone. It looks & acts like the google chrome browser. Can I assume this is working now and I can trust that I am in safezone?

Firstly Google use geo-location redirection, depending on the IP address used they interpret where that is and display the local version of Google.

There has been one other such topic recently, but that was in the SecureLine VPN product.
See https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=169689.0 for more information on that.

Are you also using the avast SecureLine VPN product ?

@nanajana : The Google Homepage is the default startpage of SafeZone, so that is normal. But I am curious if you are still using the exclusions ?

@David : As you know I live in The Netherlands. With SecureLine I am using the server in Dortmund, Germany. But I have Google The Netherlands as default startpage in SafeZone.

Greetz, Red.

Thanks for the confirmation.
