SafeZone's Chrome browser crashes!

I want to import my bookmarks from IE9 into the Chrome browser in avast’s SafeZone. Every time I use the bookmark manager import command in Chrome the browser crashes. I have reinstalled avast! and the problem is still there. Has anyone been successful in importing bookmarks to this browser. Again, I am talking about the Chrome browser that comes with the avast! SafeZone.
Running avast!IS 6.0.1367 with Windows 7 Pro x64.

Safezone is not a browser. Safezone is for banking and other high security needs.
I think what you are needing is to run your browser in the on-demand sandbox.

Anything you do in SafeZone gets forgot after you exit it… (I think)

I am sorry but the Chrome application in SafeZone IS a browser: Recommended for sensitive online operations – shopping, banking, and providing personal information. I do all this in IE9 and would like to import the bookmarks for the shopping and banking sites into this browser in order to take advantage of what avast! provides. The browser does save bookmarks. I have manually saved bookmarks and they don’t get erased. All the Chrome tools are there including the import/export bookmaks. My problem is that Chrome crashes everytime I try to import bookmarks. Someone on the avast! team should know more about this ???

For those that are unfamiliar here is the avast! description of the Browser in the SafeZone:

“The avast! SafeZone is an additional security feature in avast! Pro Antivirus and avast! Internet Security, which allows you to browse the web in a private, secure environment, invisible to the rest of your system. For example, if you do your banking or shopping online, or other security-sensitive transactions, you can be sure that your personal data cannot be monitored by spyware or key-logging software. Unlike the avast! Sandbox, which is intended to keep everything contained inside so that it cannot harm the rest of your system, the avast! SafeZone is designed to keep everything else out.”

As you can see it is also very different from running your normal browser in the Sandbox! ;D

Sandbox is intended to keep everything contained inside it, so it prevents from anything inside it to get out of it and into your system.

SafeZone is the opposite. It keeps everything outside it, so it prevents from anything outside it to get into the SafeZone. So, if you were able to simple “import” your bookmars from outside SafeZone into the Chrome browser inside SafeZone, it would mean that SafeZone is not doing its job.

Whether there is some exclusion / exception or some way to do it, is a different thing.

Whether your previous attempts to do it should get SafeZone’s Chrome to “crash”, I don’t know.

I have never succeeded in importing bookmarks from FF to safezone (it didn’t crash, it just didn’t work).

I can import bookmarks from IE to safezone.

Edit: I have just reset safezone to clear bookmarks, and re-imported them from IE9 - so it is still working fine here.

I don’t know what is wrong with your machine, but when I had safezone problems in the past (in that I couldn’t reset safezone), I solved them by deleting ## aswSnx … in safemode.

See here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=86107.msg695768#msg695768 - not sure if it may be of any help to you though. You may want to wait and see if pk picks up this issue - he usually does seem to chip in when a safezone thread appears.

Thanks, mag!
Chrome works fine for me in the SafeZone except for the “import bookmarks” process. I can save bookmarks individually and have also tested the Reset function and it also works, ie. everything goes back to default. I guess I’ll keep loading the bookmarks one at a time until someone has a clue.

+1 This is also how I understand it. The bookmark issue has also been a pain.

Nothing goes inside of the SafeZone, no addons, no bookmarks, no changes in settings.
This is the design of SafeZone.

Ok, I understand now why importing bookmarks from another browser would not be allowed. But I think the avast! coders should have come up with a more elegant solution to let the user know, like an error/notification window, instead of the application going into a hard crash!!

This isn’t right Tech (at least not on my machine).

I can import bookmarks (from IE at least).

I can’t install addons

Others have reported importing other things into Safezone, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=82291.msg672199#msg672199 and we still seem to be waiting for pk to finish his testing of that (see reply#20).

So, my fault, sorry.

Or is the behaviour different on different machines?

No, it’s not. Just that I did not test, I just say by memory and, as you saw, I was wrong.

OK, thanks for the clarification Tech.

(between us all we don’t seem to have moved the OP along very far with his issue)
