Sandbox issues

Hi
I am not sure where to put this post. Yesterday Avast Sandbox popped up and froze my browser (Firefox 39.0) I haven’t had any issues to date so not sure where this is coming from. I was saving a picture on a website that had items for sale. Something I do all the time with no problems.
Every time I try to upload a picture , any picture at all, whether it is in my Facebook stash or in ‘my pictures’ on my computer Sandbox flies up and freezes everything. So I turned it off. Restarted computer.
Now I get a black screen without the Sandbox tab showing and a error message about scripts running. This does not mean I do not get the web page I wanted e.g. Facebook or google etc. it just means that sporadically Sandbox opens a nice black screen for me and when I hit escape it goes white then disappears and I get the 'stop/debug script" message. And things seem to have to work harder to load.
I have run Malware Bytes and scanned with Avast and found nothing at all.
Computer seems to be okay otherwise but it takes a while to load anything because there seems to be some monster script slowing everything down.

Is anyone else having trouble with Sandbox right now?
Btw I don’t eve use it and wouldn’t even know how.
Tia for any help you can give me

Hi merricat

[s]Uploading pictures with a sandboxed Firefox is causing me problems as well.
But I am not sure if it is a general problem, or caused by the settings I use.

The other problems you descripe are new to me.
Have you tried to delete the contents of the Sandbox ?

Avast - Settings - Tools - Sandbox - Customise - Webbrowsers - Maintenance - Delete contents.

When the Sandbox is still in use, you can not delete it. A reboot will solve that.[/s]

Thanks Red
I did try what you suggested. Nada. No luck.

Could it have anything to do with an update? I updated Avast’ engine this morning when I saw that I was still having issues. Thought it might solve the problem. As soon as I tried to open my internet banking page or do anything at all that black screen comes up then goes white and then I get the script message.

The more I try to stop script or continue or debug(?) lol! the more it does nothing.

[s]But it only happens when you Sandbox Firefox ?
There is no problem when don’t Sandbox Firefox ?

First try a repair of Avast :

  1. Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Avast! - Change.
  2. Repair.
  3. Follow the instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Than delete the Sandbox contents again.[/s]

Red everything is opening in Sandbox.

I have never used it. Not ever. Don’t have a clue how.
For what it’s worth.

This is what is written in the unresponsive script box for details. I tried to show you a screen shot of the message so you could see the little Avast sandbox tab which now atteached to everything! But file upload is also unresponsive now. Just hangs and hangs.
All I can say is that everything is opening up in sandbox.

I will try the repair now.

I tried the repair you suggested. Grrr. No luck.

Good ol’ Sandbox is now framing every window and message box that comes up. I looked at settings and sandbox but don’t see a way to get rid of it totally. I did turn it off once but it didn’t work then. Maybe I will try that again.

Now I am confused …

Which version of Avast are you using : ( Free ), Pro, IS or Premier ?

Greetz, Red.

Pro I think. 2 year subscription. I used free for a long time but now I would rather pay for a full version.

I did the repair. I tried deleting everything that is in the Sandbox I have never played in lol! Rebooted countless times and still it is there framing everything. I can’t log in to certain websites because of the script message.

The last time I rebooted the Avast interface came up as though I were a brand new customer and walked me through all the tips. I can’t even get my account info to come up on the interface. It just loads and loads.

When you open the Avast user interface it will tell you which version it is.
But you have a paid version, with the Sandbox, but you have never used it.

Ok, can you look here :

Avast - Settings - Tools - Sandbox - Customise - Virtualised processes

Is there anything listed under " Vitualised processes " or " Vitualised folders" ( see screenshot ) ?

When yes, click on each and every item, and delete them from those lists untill there are no more items listed. And see it that helps.
When nothing is listed there, simply tell me.

Greetz, Red.

Okay!

The Avast Sandbox frame is gone!

However the unresponsive script error message is not is not.

When you asked me to check the virtualization tab mozilla fire fox was in there. So I deleted it.
Thus the frame is gone.

I did however have sandbox turned off again at the time so had to turn it on.

Sorry about the size

Anyway this what I get and the code/numbers are different every time. And I have Avast Internet Security

First of all, initially I completely misunderstood your problem.

But I have never seen such message from the sandbox before.
I have to ask someone more knowledgeable than me first.

Greetz, Red.

It is probably not from the sandbox, but I experienced these unresponsive scripts appearing in the firefox browser occasionally.
If that is the case here, you are to check your add-ons one by one to see what extension - remote bloat is causing a script that is unresponsive. Probably running in a never ending loop. So check after disabling and then enabling add-ons one by one where the culprit lies.

Thanks so much! I will do that polonus!

;D

And thank you so much Red!

;D

Yeah, this is what Mozilla says about it https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script

Try to sort it out first.
Than I can help you to set up - and use the Sanbox properly if you want.
