Hi,Just joined this forum.Been using avast noe for some time working well quite happy with it.Now updated to the latest edition Avast 5 Pro on Friday,Now I’m getting a 'Always Run In Sandbox & Run Virtualized’when I right click on one of the icons in my download folder.I’m using windows xp pro fully updated.
Can someone please put me on the correct path what the sandbox etc actualy for and how do I use it,Or dont I need it if I dont require it can it be deleted.Help please.
signal.
I don’t remember having any setting to disable context menu sandbox selections. But if you have bought avast! 5 Pro, i suggest you use the extra goodies provided by it (especially Sandbox).
Sandbox can be used to run suspicious applications without any risk of getting infected. You can also sandbox entire applications like browsers or in my case PDF reader (Foxit) to avoid possible exploits associated with it.
Those two options give you ability to either run application in sandbox only once or to quickly adjust it to always run in the sandbox (even if you later just double click it). Padlock on the program icon will show you that program is set to be always run inside sandbox.
@ the OP: the question is why did you buy the pro version? I mean do you know why you did? now if you think that you don’t need the sandbox, use the add-remove program, option “change”, un-tick the sandbox component in the list, click next and reboot.
open avast and see in top right corner " Help Center " > Real-time Shields > Process Virtualization (Sandbox)
I’m new to avast and have just d/l’d and installed a trial version of the Internet Security on my XP x64 system. I’m specifically looking to test the sandbox feature, but a real lack of serious technical information regarding this feature seems to be in short supply. Does anyone know where there are further technical docs (white paper, etc.,…) regarding avast specific implementation details about this feature?
Also, I don’t seems to have this feature in the trial version (I can’t find it anywhere on the UI). I thought the Internet Security trial was full featured?
Thanks in advance.
did you see my post above ? have you looked in the right click menu ?
also open avast > shields > Process Virtualization

Was this any help ?
I don’t have a “Process Virtualization” option in the “Real-Time Shield” menu.
Also, I don't seems to have this feature in the trial version (I can't find it anywhere on the UI). I thought the Internet Security trial was full featured?well then you may be correct.....that it is not in the trail version ???
I searched in the forums and it seems like other folks may have this feature on their x64 trial versions (Win7 some months ago)…I wonder if it’s because I’m running WinXP Pro x64 version…maybe it’s not supported on this windows version? The online sales info seems to indicate that it IS supported…can anyone comment on this for sure?
If it IS supported but I don’t have it in the trial version I can buy it and then try it, right (there’s a money-back guarantee)? I don’t have a problem with that, but this feature is important to me…I want to make sure that it’s supported on WinXP Pro x64 before I commit to a purchase.
Thanks in advance.
don’t bother, it’s not supported on XP64 specifically, while it runs on Vista/Seven 64.
thx for the info…they really should change their info about their x64 support…it would have saved me a bunch of time instead of trying it out, posting a bunch of questions here only to find out negativo, etc.,…
Nice product, but without the XPx64 sandbox support I can’t commit to a purchase at this time.
Thanks for everyones help.
Thankyou all,I think its sorted now.
