Sandbox

Okay, when I right click ANY program Avast gives me an option to run in sandbox. However when I right click my web browser I DO NOT get the option to run in sandbox.I only get Browser the internet, Firefox Options, Firefox Safe mode. Can you help me out?

I wish I could help you but I do not use FireFox.

However, with both IE8 & Opera10, the right click menu does include running them in Sandbox on my computer.

Hopefully, someone with FireFox can post help.

In order to get that context menu option for the sandbox you either have to right click it directly from start - all programs or right click the desktop shortcut. If you are on win 7 like me that is(i don’t know how it is on xp). You can’t get that context menu for sb if you right click the shortcut in recently used programs(inside start menu) or if you right click the shortcut that you have pinned to the taskbar.

yeah they planned to introduce the context menu for sandboxing on pinned icons, either in the start menu or the task bar… hopefully in 5.1…not sure when that comes (I asked for it a while ago).

Indeed… a very annoying limitation of Windows 7…

@maddogf250: yes, current version of avast sandbox doesn’t show sandbox options for some special shortcuts (it depends how they were registered into system). So, these shortcuts are e.g. Safari, MS Word/Excel, IE9 (?). This will be fixed in next update version. [Workaround: create shortcut manually on desktop].

@m416: sorry, I haven’t heard about missing context menu options in “recently used programs” (maybe it’s possible to add this option, I’ll think about it).

As for Win7 taskbar, I am afraid it won’t be never implemented, because it’s not easy to done. The problem is with programs which are pinned on taskbar, but they’re not executed. I don’t know how to attach to those programs and get their unique ID. When I’ll have more time, I’ll continue in research, hopefully for provisional solution…

yeah pk it won’t work either with recently opened programs as they appear just like pinned items, similarly to the taskbar (as icons can be pinned manually to the start menu too).

Thanks pk for the info. Well i’ve allready gotten used to this but if it would be possible to enable the context menu for at least the recently used programs list, that would be very cool yes.

…hmm… that’s impossible, see my post above, recently opened programs and just temporary “pinned” items… (ie same way as on the taskbar)

edit: unless pk finds a way, if it becomes possible for the task bar, then it will be possible for both.

Well i found a workaround. Just press SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK and you get those context menu options.

nice, never tried

Ahhh the wonders of Windows 7. God i love this OS. Still keep discovering new things.
