Sandboxed Browser Cache and System Restore Error

PC is an XP with AIS, everything up to date. My PC is experiencing no other issues or performance concerns.

Whenever I manually delete the cache in the Additional Protection>Sandbox Settings>Web Browser>Maintenance section of Avast, i get a System restore error in the event log.

Error reads: “The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error 0x0C000003A while processing the file ‘Cache’ on the volume hardisk volume2. It has stopped monitoring the volume.”

Of course when that happens, I lose the System Restore point. I can create a new SR point and it remains until the next time I delete the Avast sandbox broswer cache when the SR error happens again. I only get the SR error when deleting the cache. All SR services are turned on, started, auto, monitoring, etc as they should be, and the normal trouble shooting points to this error as an AV issue. Obiviously there’s a history of issues between AV’s and System Restore and a search on this forum shows some issues even with Avast, but not alot recently.

1.) Why does this SR error occur when I manually delete the AIS sandbox browser cache? Is there a way to work around this?

2.) Is the better solution to just uncheck the box in cache sandbox browser settings? Quoted from Avast help: “If this box is checked, a completely separate sandbox storage will be used for web browsers and this will not be automatically deleted when the browser is terminated. This means that the next time the browser is launched, it will use the same sandbox storage from the previous browser session, which will therefore improve the browser’s performance.” I don’t even know if the default is supposed to be on or off, but how much can this really impact performance anyway, a few milliseconds? As a normal routine, I clear the browser history/cache every time I close the browser (Chrome and IE sandboxed or not)), so why would I care if AIS keeps a sandbox browser cache separate anyway?

Basically what I’m asking for is if there is an easy solution, I’d like to know what to do. If this is just some quirk with AIS and System Restore and the easiest thing to do is just to uncheck sandbox browser cache in AIS and it’s not really going to impact my browsing, then that’s fine too.

Thanks.

Still looking for an answer.

Thanks.

Welcome to the “One Man Thread”, drop in and say hello!! It’s kind of lonely in here.

But seriously, anybody have anything on this?

Thanks.

Before creating a system restore point, you need to disable the Self Protection module in your avast settings:
