I use the free version of Sandboxie, and can attest that it contained a drive-by attack within the browser in use. The actual computer and browser was unaffected after the attack, and avast! did alert and block 576 times in the 30 or so seconds it took to close the browser (it froze) and later disconnect from the Internet.
Three different Trojans were detected coming in, and none remained after emptying the sandbox. Here, Sandboxie and avast! worked hand-in-hand to deflect and contain the attack, and the Trojans never got installed. It was the XP system that got hit, and it was clean afterwards.
Suggest setting Sandboxie to automatically delete all contents of the sandbox when the program in use is closed; one never knows when this sort of attack may happen. 'Twas some time ago, and only once so far, but it will happen again, but when it does, I’m ready. Setting the automatic deletion of the sandbox after the sandboxed session is over is an important part of that preparation.
