Some time ago I was intrested if Avast can save its settings so that they wont get loose after reinstall and at that time it was not possible.
Now in the release history of the new Avast 7 version it is written:
Export/Import settings
So, does this mean that there is already option to save the settings of Avast??? Does this option refer maybe only for the payable version of Avast and not for the free version?
and it covers all the settings in Avast, because I read in forum that some users complain this option doesnt cover everything in Avast ?
Can you send me also a screenshot where this option is?
The backup/restore settings works very well, I used it extensively while beta testing v7.
You can even move the settings from one machine to another. I have 3 PC’s here and just entered the one file into each machine to set up the scan and protection settings I wanted, it means you can uninstall/re install and set up again very quickly.
Prior to version 7 was there a possiblity to backup the Avast settings or this starts with version 7?
there is one thing that it definitely fails to restore (no idea if it gets really saved in the first place), it’s your license, and it’s supposed to do it. The option for it does appear in the panel before saving, and doesn’t anymore in the same panel before restoring. Again, I don’t even think it was ever saved.
sorry guys I thought it was still there, and it’s not, not even as an option when backing up … I think I saw it appear in the restore option panel when I restored after installing the final version, and using a backup from the beta. So indeed, the license saving option has been completely removed.
actually I dont understand why is it an issue because of the missing backup of the licence? In my case I have a serial number which I got via email. So if something sucks with the licence I can reenter the serial number in Avast… or what is wrong in my logic?
I believe it wasn’t that they ‘couldn’t use their license,’ but that the license isn’t exported (not in the list) for backup in the free version.
If they had registered on the avast web site not through the avastUI, then they would have received an email with the registration key, then they could use that if it still had time remaining. But that doesn’t make much sense when you can get registered for a full year in under 30 seconds.
I don’t know if the option to export the license is available in the paid versions as it makes more sense to back it up (so they don’t lose the remaining period that they have paid for), but in the free version, you just quickly register on-line (through the avastUI) and your good to go for another year.
