SBS Prem SP1 - ADNM install doesn't see SQL Svr

I downloaded the install package w/o MSDE. I get to the point where I’m supposed to pick an SQL server. As I have installed another sw package that created the default SQL instance, my “server” is \servername\intance. However, since it was created as part of an install on another sw package, I was not given the opportunity to create an sa password (When I use the Enterprise Mgr, I log in to the instance using Windows Auth).

If I have a pre-existing SQL default instance in SBS Prem SP1, how do I get the adnm installer to see my server? (It returned an error indicating that it couldn’t find the server)

Do I need to install another instance of SQL? If so, does it need a special name?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Keith

Hi Keith, and welcome to the avast forums.

  1. ADNM requires SQL authentication. I.e. you need to know the “sa” account password. If you can log on to the server using Windows Authentication, you might be able to reset the sa password (hopefully, this won’t break the program that installed it).

  2. is the preinstalled instance named or unnamed? (typically, it’s unnamed).

  3. I don’t think you’ll need to install another instance, but if you do, it can have any name (e.g. AVAST - that’s what we use when installing the MSDE).

Thanks
