Hi, Avast just installed Scam Guardian and I enabled the e-mail protection. However, it adds a green label to each inspected e-mail “Avast: safe”.
How do I disable the labeling?
Thank you.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Given you have posted in the Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security sub-forum - I’m not sure this is Scam Guardian. What is your primary Avast Program ?
There used to be such a function in the Mail Shield, add a signature (primary for outbound email) which was basically saying it isn’t infected. There was also one to mark the subject of infected email.
That message could be disabled in the Settings Protection > Core Shields > Mail Shield
I just wonder having added Scam Guardian there is such a setting in that - but then again I can’t see the point of having Scam Guardian if it doesn’t flag or inform you of scan emails.
Thanks DavidR.
I’m using Avast Premium and I have it also installed on my Android mobile.
The Scam Guardian has just been added today in an Avast update and it replaced the e-mail protection option. As you can see below, e-mail protection is grayed out.
The mail shield setting are exactly as you shown.
Scam Guardian settings options are as below, no option to remove or customize labels. See options below:
The reason I want to have the labels removed is because Avast also added two folders in my Outlook: “Avast: Scam” and “Avast: Suspicious” and I understand unsafe messages and automatically moved there. So, the label in my inbox messages is just redundant and seeing it in my mobile is a bit annoying.
Since this is a new feature, maybe they include this option in the future.
I hope this thread helps Avast developers think of this option.
Thank you, anyway.
Thanks for that. I really don’t get Avast changing names for the components, I have only been using Avast Free for 21 years and The Mail Shield, just seemed to cover what it did.
Now, in looking at your Screenshot, the old Mail Shield, was in the Core Shields (as in my screenshot), so what is in there as that was the logical location. If the Spam Guard is a replacement for the Email Shield.
So what is in the Settings > Protection > Core Shields as that was where the Email Shield was located and if the Spam Guard is a replacement for the Email Guard (Email Shield).
My problem is also related to I’m still on Avast Antivirus Free (rather than premium) and still using Avast 25.5, there were bugs in 25.6 and they didn’t get cleaned up satisfactorily (given what I see in the forums). One gets cleared up only to be replaced by another hiccup. So I have been hanging back on program updates.
I have always been on Manual program updates I don’t particularly like the Auto Updates on any programs, I monitor and decide when to update. For a long time I used to run on the beta channel, back when Avast wasn’t so complex and virtually bulletproof.
So I think its time to do a system backup and dive back into the swimming pool.
