is there a way using AEA to force a scan of a flash drive once it is plugged in? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Vista and higher can run scheduled tasks on an event ID trigger… My gut instinct is that it woudln’t be hard to run a batch file with the scan you want to run based off Event ID: 134 Source: Removable Storage as the trigger; although I have a different USB security solution in place so I have not taken the time to setup and test this theory.

What about: Computer Catalog → Properties → System Shiled → Scan when attaching → scan auto-run items…

turned on by default. I thought the request was to kick off a manual scan of all files on the USB device when it attaches.
