??? my avast found a trojan,I have been running a thorough scan…its been 24 hrs. and still plugging along!!! what now? (new user)
are you doing the scan with archive scanning enabled? Do you have any huge archives (e.g. ISO files) on your disk?
Or maybe archives with huge amount of files?
You may try to scan with archives disabled. That should speed up things considerably.

When did you last do a disk clean-up? Avast! may be sanning thousands of useless temporary files that could be removed before you start the scan.
