Scan Memory on program startup?

Hi, I swicthed from McAfee to Avast a few weeks ago, and so far it seems excellent!

Could someone explain to me what the “Scan Memory on program startup” option does.

And is it needed?

Thanks,
John

It goes through all your runnning procceses (and their modules: DLLs) and scans them for a virus which can be active in memory - the virus can also inject itself into other process’ space.

John P,

as with all things in life it is a good idea to get yourself used/make yourself familiar with it.
I suggest you read the help file on Avast and do so.

I might add - the scanning of loaded modules occurs when you start the Simple (or Enhanced, if you have avast! Professional) user interface - when the “splash screen” is displayed, you will see the scan progress.

Alright, Thanks everyone!

John
