I have just installed avast! and originally left it scanning on startup. I have now decided that as its checking everything in the background and this slows the boot up time, I dont need it on. But I cant find where to turn it off!!! there is mysterious mention of a scheduler in the help files, but i cant find that either. It doesnt seem to be an faq.
How to disable scan at boot?
Could you please start regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, select the value BootExecute and export it to a file? If you could post the file as an attachment here, I would like to check what could be wrong there.
In XP, if you press F8 when starting Windows and select ‘Last known good configuration’ from the boot menu, the boot scan should not be started.
The 001 and 003 aren’t the current one…
If you try to schedule boot time scanning twice, at the second time, it will be offered to you the option to unschedule.
thanks for your help, the problem was complicated by my inability to find the menu on the default skin that avast came with, the little triangle meant nothing useful to me at all :o. Now that I have discovered the main menu I can turn scan at startup on and off. (Of course its easier for me with a more straightforward layout).
