Scan options just dissapear??

I have Avast Internet Security and went into my scan option and all that’s there now is select a folder to scan. What happened to Full system scan, quick scan and i think there were a couple more options. What causes this to just disappear? Its happened before and I had to uninstall AIS and reinstall. Anyone know why this would be happening?

I can’t recall seeing many cases of this in the forums.

What happens if you reboot

If the reboot doesn’t resolve it - Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

what is your OS 64-bit or 32-bit? just for info. I’m not a user of IAS so its not right to advice anything

Regards!!!

I run a 32 bit OS Win XP Pro. I done a reboot and a repair and problem is still here. No scan options except for select a drive and all my previous scan logs are gone. I dunno why. I’m out for a few hrs. Thanks for the help.

Anyone have any suggestions before i uninstall and reinstall? Thanks!

I think that is the next logical step if a reboot and repair didn’t work.

However, I would suggest a clear reinstall:

  • Download the latest version of avast AIS, 5.0.677 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for AIS 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Well I just totally uninstalled and done a reinstall and all is good now. I dunno what causes this but its like the 2nd or 3rd time its happened to me. I have to say though this is the only problem I’ve ever had with Avast. Thanks!

You’re welcome, Its hard to pin down what appears to be corruption of one element, which won’t get fixed with a repair.

I don’t see anything in your signature that might have any impact on avast, certainly not the interface display.

Its good to put the RAM amount in the signature as I have had problems running avast! and Malwarebytes (MBAM) and was given excellent help when I provided that information about my XP Pro system.

Ok I updated my sig. Thanks for the info.
