scan results

When I run a scan, I get the results saying “some files could not be scanned”. Is this a problem? To me it is. Thanks, Lee

No, it usually isn’t.
But it would help to see a screenshot.

hey as Asyn said it usually files that is protected witch avast could not access to scan. Because of that you get the result some files couldn’t be scan.

but a screen shot would be good.

Some files cannot be scan due their nature. Files such as zip files, archive files and password protected files. These files are inert and pose no problems to your machine since they are not executable. They are in effect inert. All software that is downloaded from the web are password protected and avast has no way of knowing their passwords and thus cannot scan these files.

You did not indicate what settings you are using during a scan. I suggest using the default “full system scan”. Some users do too deep of a memory scan or have “all packers” scanned. The end result is usually is “some files cannot be scanned”. I have learned to leave the packer settings alone.

If you do too deep of a memory scan some actions will not be allowed. This is because memory items can do no harm.

Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).

When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.

By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.

If you can give some examples of those file names, the locations and reason given why it can’t be scanned might help us further ?

Is there a way in which I can change setting maybe in order for all areas can be scanned?
Thank you,
Lee

Hard to guess, without any feedback from you.

Is there a way in which I can change setting maybe in order for all areas can be scanned?
yes....but all areas is not the same as all files...files that are protected will still be protected but it is not necessary to scan everything......unless you have some special need or know something the avast guys dont, then stay with default settings

Sorry All that I haven’t gotten back to you of late except for here and there. Had a health issue.
Asyn, I’ll get a screen shot, if I can remember how.
Para-Noid, I’ll do a ‘Full Scan’ as I usually do and leave packers alone.
David R., Will delete: old backup/recovery/quarantined files.
If I’m missing anyone I apologize.
Thank all of you so much. I am much obliged.
