Scan Trouble...

Recently had problem with computer and had to reinstall avast free edition. Anyway, when I click Scan tab, it is slow to load and am unable to see scan options, only see where options would be. Also, my OS is Win 7 64-bit Home Pre… Help appreciated :slight_smile:

P.S. On 30 day trial period and have not re-registered yet…

Do you have any other security softwares installed in the computer apart from avast!?

No other antivirus besides this and malwarebytes…

Try to repair avast! You can do it by going to…

Control Panel → Programs and Features → avast! Free → Right click and click on Repair.

Try to scan with avast! and post back with results.

No repair option when right-click, only uninstall/change…

You need to scroll down. You will see an option for avast Repair below Change and Uninstall.

Repair avast! and check for results.

Only option on right-click is change/uninstall. There is no repair option available…

If that is the case we need to reinstall avast! from scratch.

avast! GUI → Settings (Top Right corner) → Troubleshooting → Uncheck Enable avast! Self-defence module.

Download and run the avast! removal tool from 

http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe

Once avast! is removed, reboot the machine.

 Download the latest version of avast! and install it. This time it will be fixed.

Having selected avast! Free Antivirus in the Programs and Features - Left click (not right) on the Uninstall/Change option, this will open another window (may take a little time to load) from here you have the various options, Scroll down to Repair.

  • Control Panel, Programs & Features, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.

It didnt work… Malwarebytes and even AVG(was previous anti-virus when having trouble with this), picked up nothing… What else can I do?

OS is 64-bit with 6GB RAM

It is kinda slow to open UI when I click on Icon on bottom right of taskbar. Also, wait icon spins for about 30 secs when I click Scan tab, even though it will show no scan options. Help appreciated…

Go to http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ and select the EXACT correct removal utility for you old AVG, download it.

Then reboot into Windows Safe Mode and remove the remnants of AVG. Reboot, test and report back.

When I used avast before avg, still couldnt see scan options… Will doing this fix the not seeing scan options prob?

I don’t know, but the remnants of other security tools MUST go away, or problems WILL happen.

Scan options still not visible, can’t even scan when I right-click C drive… Thoughts?

did you run the AVG removal tool and reboot ?

reboot and install again

Tried the other uninstall method, reinstalled clean and still unable to see scan options or even scan c drive when I right-click it… :frowning:
