Scaning archive files

Even when I click the button to allow Avast Antivirus (Free addition) to scan my archive files it doesn’t seem to do it. I just get all the archive files listed and a notice telling me that the files can’t be scanned. I’m I doing something wrong here?

Hi,
is there a reason given, why the files can’t be scanned, or an error code/other details ?

give some examples of the complete file- and pathname with avast (error)message from avast’s report/logs

please tell us your Win version

are ALL archives not scanned, or only some, like password-protected archives by spybot/ad-aware/the like ?

I’m using win98se. The message reads,
Unable to scan Ar…
C:\windows\applications data\ …sb recovery

sb recovery seems to be a SpyBot backup file (for system recovery of deleted itens).
It’s ok, avast! (or any other antivirus) cannot scan into password protected files. But I virus cannot harm you in a protected file…

(For the advanced readers: I know about metamorphism of virus in encrypted files… but you know, the user here has a simple problem) ;D

Thank’s for the advise and help.
