Using Avast Version 4.8 on a Vista computer, my virus scan has been running several hours and shows 100% complete but is still running. Under tested files there is a file name. Has this happened to others and do you have any advice? Many thanks.
How exactly does it freeze? Does it happen always approximately at the same place/folder of the scan?
Do you see a hard disk activity (when it freezes)? Is only the program frozen, or the whole computer (possibly with mouse cursor)?
Additionally, you can go to the program settings and turn on the creation of the report file (with “OK files” to be included as well in the report). This way, you can find out where the scan really stopped (it’s going to be close to the end of the report).
The report file created (if you turned it on in program settings) will be (default location) at \Data\Report\Simple User Interface.txt
Thanks for responding. This is the first time this has happened and computer is working fine otherwise. I will enable it to create a report as you suggest and re-scan.
My widget for computer usage isn’t showing anything extreme.
Does it make any difference if you set the scan sensitivity to Quick/Standard/Thorough?
If so, look http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35280.msg296545#msg296545
I took your advice and did a Quick Scan this time. It seemed to take a long time but it did scan properly. Thank you for your help. Avast is always so trouble free I got a little concerned when it responded in an unusual way.
I appreciate your advice about the report, I will keep that setting from now on.
Cheers!
That link about sensitivity was helpful, too!
