scanning a file

For the first time today I attempted to check one of my files on My Computer. I right -clicked on it and then clicked the Avast scan button. All that happened was the Avast box appeared for a couple of seconds and then vanished. I didn’t get any further info about whether it was infected or clear. can anyone help?

Right click the ‘a’ blue icon on system tray.
Choose Program Settings.
On tab ‘Common’ check ‘Show results of Explorer Extension’ :wink:

I didn't get any further info about whether it was infected or clear. can anyone help?
If the file is infected the Avast! warning would pop up.
