scanning error

I’m using Avast 4.8 Home Edition on Xp with sudisfaction.

In the last days the icon of avast OnAccesScanner becames standing with a little red circle and the tip says:
avast! On Access scanner: 0 provider total(s), 0 runnig.
Usually it is:
avast! On Access scanner: 7 provider total(s), 5 runnig.

I must restart the service from the computer management to have it working again.

If I look in the avast Log viewer, I see erros like these (I reported only the last).

12/10/2009 7.43.10	SYSTEM	952	AAVM - scanning error: Aavm: FetchGlobalCounters cannot open mapping - server DOWN???, 00000002.
15/10/2009 17.57.08	SYSTEM	3796	AAVM - scanning error: Aavm: FetchGlobalCounters cannot open mapping - server DOWN???, 00000002.

17/10/2009 16.39.46	SYSTEM	3200	AAVM - scanning error: Aavm: FetchGlobalCounters cannot open mapping - server DOWN???, 00000002.
17/10/2009 18.13.55	SYSTEM	3200	AAVM - scanning error: Aavm: FetchGlobalCounters cannot open mapping - server DOWN???, 00000002.
18/10/2009 9.49.48	SYSTEM	2256	AAVM - scanning error: Aavm: FetchGlobalCounters cannot open mapping - server DOWN???, 00000002.
18/10/2009 10.59.30	SYSTEM	2256	AAVM - scanning error: Aavm: FetchGlobalCounters cannot open mapping - server DOWN???, 00000002.

What can I do to solve the problem?
thanks
Gianni

Welcome to the forums giove,

Please try repairing your avast installation via:

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > avast! antivirus > Change/Remove > Scroll down to see Repair > Next. Reboot.

Hope it works.

Thanks, I did. I’ll report tomorrow if the error disappeared or not, it happens random.
ciao
Gianni

Ok. Hope it works.

Ciao.

Sorry for the delay in answering, but I didn’t work on my PC.

The problem is still there!
It starts, but after a while (minutes or hours) the red circle is on again and I must start “Avast! Antivirus” from the compute management.

Does XP have SP3 installed?

Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM) then install it then update it and run a Quick scan:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Post its log here.

Go to Secunia Online Software Inspector then run it to see what applications are vulnerable:

Which was your old antivirus before avast? How did you uninstall it?
The error couldn’t be random… something is fishy in your computer.

To YoKenny:
I’m following your instructions now. I’ll report later.

To Tech:
Avast has been installed on my PC at first last year when I got it. And for all this time it worked ok.
I agree that something is going wrong, but the problem is to find it.

Sigh, I follow the instructions, but nothing wrong was reported:
some missing link in the register
some unsecure application:
Adobe, RealPlayer, Java, QuickTime, but I use only Java and Acrobate Reader.

I don’t know. This is happening now after
Remove and reinstall can help?

Where is the MBAM log?

What insecure applications?

I want only to notify that the problem seems solved.
I discovered bad blocks in the NTFS disk E:.
When I recovered from this problem, Avast started working again without errors.
Thanks to everibody for all suggestions you gave me

Good to know. But, take care, bad blocks are sign of disk failure. Backup. Reformat/reinstall.
