Scanning files

How do I use avast to scan one file? Let us say I have downloaded one file from the internet and I want to scan just that file. How do I do it? Thanks. :-[

Right click the icon of the file you want to scan and select Scan (file name). It should be a quick easy scan.

I hope this helps you.

Well you have a few possibilities

First you can scan the file with ashQuick(the explorer extencion) - just right click on the file and in the context menu you will have the option “scan XXXX”(where “XXXX” is the name of the file) That’s it ;D

Or you can manual set your download manager to use ashQuick program to scan the file right after the file is downloaded

There is no choice to select avast! on my right-click drop down menu. How do I configure avast! to show on my right-click menu.

Where can I get ashQuick? Thanks for your help.

avast Program Settings, see image.

ashQuick is an integral part of avast, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe

ashQuick is there but is not working. avast! is set according to the illustration but when I right-click on a file there is still no option to scan with avast. Is there something wrong with my settings or is ashQuick corrupted? avast is working fine, I just wished that I could be able to scan a file if I felt like doing so. Thanks

So, if you click on any file or folder, you don’t have the option “Scan …” in the context menu?
What operating system do you use?

XP Home SP2. On my context menu I only have the option for ewido anti-trojan but not for avast. Thanks.

Strange.
In regedit, check the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers - is there an avast! subkey there?

Yes, there is an avast subkey/folder there. Thanks

OK. What’s the content of
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{472083B0-C522-11CF-8763-00608CC02F24}\InProcServer32
?

Sorry, no content there. Only: Name Data Type Size Description ab[default] avast REG_SZ 6 There is only this key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{472083B0-C522-11CF-8763-00608CC02F24}, with the above text written in blue.

Might have deleted it somehow.

Strange, it contains the text “avast”?
The default value of this key should be of REG_SZ type, but containing C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\avast4\ashShell.dll (of course, it might be different if you changed your avast! installation folder).
Try to change the value to see if it appears.

Try to change the value to see if it appears.
Do not know how to do that, and which value must I try to change?

The default (“nameless”) value of the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{472083B0-C522-11CF-8763-00608CC02F24}
should point to the file ashShell.dll in avast! installation folder.
