Hi,
In the last few days I have switched from Norton Antivirus to Avast4.
I’m running Eudora 5.1 with Frontgate MX as a spam filter on WinXP.
Avast seems to run fine but my question is this:
Should I see some sort of information box whe I am downloading incoming email?. When email is sent that box pops up saying what message is being scanned but I see nothing when incoming mail is downloaded. Maybe the fact it is passing through Frontgate is the “problem”?.
Yes, there should be similar information for incoming mail. Unfortunately you have to do some manual configuration to get it working with the spam filter.
assign new port to avast (e.g. 111): insert the line
PopListen=127.0.0.1:111
to file ALWIL Software\Avast4\Data\avast4.ini into section [MailScanner]
Set this port to Eudora: insert the line
PopPort=111
to file Qualcomm\Eudora\eudora.ini into section [Settings] (or [Persona-…] if you use personalities)
Restart Eudora and set the the login name like this:
NAME/POPSERVER#127.0.0.1:PORT
(PORT is the port number where the spam filter listens)
I have adjusted Avast.ini and Eudora.ini as suggested using port 111.
I’m having a problem with the login name in Eudora though.
At present it is myname/popserver:110#pop3.frontgate.mail
If I change it as suggested I can’t send mail. THe Frontgate program listens on port 54110.
Any suggestions?.
I’m assuming that incoming mail is still being scanned as it is downloaded even though I can’t see a dialogue box.
Avast recognises a virus test file in a zip when the zip is open on my computer so I know the program is working. Should it pick up the "virus"in the zip as it is downloading the file.?
This is the only “problem” I’ve having with Avast at the moment.
