scanning System files

Hello:

I’m using the free Avast anti virus application and have been using it for several years. Needless to say I’m very happy with the product.
My problem is when I run a full system scan there are perhaps a few hundred MS system files that are not scanned due to no doubt the level of protection on them.

How can I change the permissions on these file to say have a global read on them? I’m a retired computer programmer and could no doubt go to MS-DOS level and issue a global read on the entire C drive. But I just thought I’d check this forum first to see if anyone had this issue and how it was resolved.

Thanks

Can you give us a few common samples, full location and file name and crucially why avast can’t scan them. That should be listed in the scan results, but you may need to expand the column width to see the reason given.

What OS are you using ?

I very rarely do on-demand scan, usually as a result of a topic in the forums. But when I do those I rarely see any files that can’t be scanned, so to see a report of hundreds of files that can’t be scanned is strange.

The last time this came up in the forums it was related to the hundreds of files that MS downloaded to the system in preparation to install windows10. Hence the questions on location, file name, reason and OS.

I started a full system scan and let it run and came back to the topic later, no files that couldn’t be scanned. That however was on this old XP Pro system (which wouldn’t have MS try to download files for win10).
